When it comes to building a website you do have various options, which range from a one click install to using more complicated methods. This article will look at some of these different ways.
When the internet first arrived 25 years ago people had to build websites using code. This raw HTML code had to be compiled into a Notepad document, or could be done with a software editor such as Dreamweaver.
While this methods still exist today, they are not used as often. Due to technological advancements with building websites, there are several, quality ways to get a site up and running.
When choosing a platform to run your website from it is important to understand that you will find free and paid options. Now, when first starting out you may be tempted to go with a free platform, this is not always the
best choices.
Free platforms include Wordpress.com, Blogger.com, Wix, Weebly, Tumblr and more. The biggest issue with these sites is that you are limited with what you can do with them. For example you may not be able to post advertisements or affiliates offers on them. You may be restricted when it comes to theme choices, the number of plug-ins you can use and more.
Plus of course they do not look as professional. Your website name will include their name as well. For example if you created a Weebly site your domain name would have weebly.com in it as well as the name you choose.
Of course, if you are just starting out and need a fast website these are still good choices for you. It is also a great way to practice setting up a site, adding content, images and videos.
The biggest downside is that you have no control over your website. It is feasible that you may wake up one morning and your site has disappeared for no reason. All your hard work has been lost.
For these reasons we suggest that once you are ready to set up a main, or more permanent site, you go with Wordpress.org. This is similar to Wordpress.com in that it offers all the same features and functions. The main difference is that you need to buy your own domain name and host your site somewhere.
We have tried similar options to Wordpress such as Joomla, and Drupal but still find that Wordpress is the easiest way to set up a site online today.
